nextLAP GmbH (www.nextlap.de), a specialist in IoT-based solutions for the digital management and automation of production and logistics processes, has launched its “Delivery Display”, which supports the digitisation of order-picking processes in production and logistics. It is compatible with nextLAP’s proven “SmartRack” solution, which connects IoT devices with nextLAP’s IP/1 platform. The “SmartRack” is used in electronics factories, by automotive manufacturers and in healthcare for optimising material flows, ergonomics and inventories, for example.

Thanks to nextLAP’s modular “SmartRack” system, all kinds of order-picking processes can be easily digitised and automated, including pick-to-light, pick-to-box, eKanban, multi-pick and forward/reverse order-picking of batches and sequences. The system includes IoT buttons with LED screen, controller and a screen or tablet. The storage racks and areas are equipped with IoT components and connected to nextLAP’s IP/1 platform. All data is collected centrally in the platform, where it is processed in real time. Because the system has been designed like an app, its operation and configuration can be tailored precisely to the various use cases.

Highly efficient and reliable order-picking processes

nextLAP has developed the “Delivery Display” as a complement to its “SmartRack”. The display supports and simplifies paperless order-picking processes. On the storage rack “pick” side, an LED screen on the pick box shows the order picker the articles and quantities to be picked. On the “place” side of the storage rack, a “Delivery Display” signals to the logistics employee, indicating which pick box must be supplied. The signal could be a flashing part number, for example. The pick-and-place employee confirms that the pick box has been correctly supplied by pressing a button. IP/1 supplies all the necessary information for this process, and records and analyses all the data generated throughout the process.

“In some companies, order-picking processes sacrifice efficiency. For example, incorrect material in the shaft is a frequent problem. If material has to be moved, it has to be re-labelled by the logistics employee. This means a lot of work and high error rates. Our ‘Delivery Display’ allows the whole process to be digitised and parts to be easily allocated. Entire logistics zones can be quickly and safely moved, for example, resulting in short throughput times”, explains André Ziemke, Managing Director of nextLAP GmbH.

Über die nextLAP GmbH

nextLAP GmbH was founded in 2014 by former Audi managers and has offices in Munich and Mountain View, California. The company develops IIoT-based production and logistics solutions aimed at the automotive industry and other sectors, which combine cloud technology, AI, big data and in-house developed IIoT hardware. The SmartRack product family allows users to digitise production and logistics processes (e.g. order-picking processes) themselves, as the solution can be quickly and easily installed, configured and maintained, with no IT knowledge required. The big data obtained from the digitised process is used to generate improvement measures and alternative action (using algorithms and artificial intelligence). nextLAP’s solutions are leased "as a service" on a monthly basis with no fixed term; usage, maintenance and support are included. The company’s customers include leading premium automotive manufacturers in Germany and the USA. (www.nextlap.de)
