IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH is expanding its USB3 Vision camera range by more than 100 models in the coming weeks. The company integrates the entire range of Sony sensors in several camera families, which it currently already offers with a GigE Vision interface. With IDS peak, it also provides a new SDK for application development for vision cameras. IDS peak is entirely based on the standards of EMVA (GenICam) and AIA (GigE Vision, USB3 Vision) and simplifies handling and programming of these cameras.

The USB3 Vision cameras will be available both as CP and SE family variants. For the latter, customers can choose between housing or board level versions with different lens holder options. The first model available is the 29 x 29 x 29 mm U3-3890CP industrial camera with the light-sensitive 12 MP IMX226 rolling shutter sensor from the Sony STARVIS series. Its sensor size of 1/1.7" allows users to choose from a large selection of cost-effective lenses. The sensors IMX290 (2.1 MP) and IMX178 (6.4 MP) are now also available as U3V camera variants – each in colour and mono.

The USB3 Vision cameras can be used with any software that supports this interface. For an optimal user experience, the company now also offers a new, platform-independent SDK called IDS peak. "It comes with all the necessary components, from source code samples to transport layers, so that customers can start developing their own applications right away," explains Maike Strecker, uEye product manager. "We have developed an easy-to-understand programming interface that provides a convenient alternative to direct access via GenTL and GenAPI. In addition, special convenience classes ensure that the amount of required code and thus the programming effort is reduced.” IDS peak is now available for download.
