The subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Materials Services supplied clear Lexan® Thermoclear® panels for the renovation, which was carried out in accordance with the specifications for listed buildings. The panels are extremely weather-resistant and offer reliable UV protection and excellent translucence. The multi-skin sheets were used to create an expanse of approx. 500 square meters. The material was used for the roof as well as for skylight strips in the exhibition area and the workshop building to ensure the exclusive manufacturer brands are displayed in their full splendor.
During the renovation of the shed roof, thyssenkrupp Plastics worked closely with the architectural office AO Berlin, which focuses on listed buildings. The architectural aim was to preserve and develop the listed building and allow it to be used on a modern way. To achieve this, the architects asked the plastics experts for a suitable material solution as well as a specialist installation company. Following detailed consultation, GTW Gewächshaustechnik Werder GmbH, a long-term customer, was chosen. They ensured the professional installation of the Lexan® Thermoclear® panels and successfully completed the project last year. “It’s a great success for us to be able to showcase our material know-how and broad-based network in this prestigious project,” says a delighted Michael Fritz, branch manager of thyssenkrupp Plastics in Berlin, commenting on the attractive solution.
Motorworld in Berlin has created a space for motoring passion. The site, which is located on a peninsula on the bank of the Havel river, comprises restored listed structures and new buildings. The “old hardening shop” with its characteristic shed roof forms the heart of the complex and has a long automotive history: It was part of the former Auto-Union-Werke plant and served as a transmission and production facility in Berlin-Spandau until the midsixties.
