Valispace, a collaborative engineering software company, has solved the major problem that hardware engineers face when trying to develop digitally complex hardware products. Instead of copy-pasting data across documents, they have developed a “Github for Hardware”, allowing engineers to develop better products more efficiently and with less mistakes. They already have customers from multiple industries, such as Airbus, BMW and the European Space Agency. Now they raised €2.2M from JOIN Capital and HCVC to expand into more industries.

In the ongoing efforts of engineers around the world to fight the corona crisis they are helping out by giving away their tool for free to anyone developing relevant open source hardware solutions.

The Problem

The main challenge with hardware collaboration today is that the development process takes years and collaboration mostly happens through thousands of inconsistent spreadsheets, documents and meetings. Costly mistakes are made when version control happens in spreadsheet_v2_final_3.xls, and engineers get frustrated when they have to update documentation and simulation inputs by hand.

The Solution

To match the need for collaboration for hardware engineers, Valispace has developed a software that allows engineers to collaboratively work on a single design. It covers all phases of the engineering lifecycle, from early requirements engineering, through concurrent design trades all the way until simulation and documentation. It connects to existing software solutions and automagically keeps documentation and data up-to-date.

Common customer use cases of the Valispace software include:

– Agile Engineering Planning (AEP):
Engineering task management that tracks task-data interdependencies

– Digitization of requirements and verification management:
Full traceability from customer requirements to test procedures and measurements

– Single Source of Truth for non-CAD data
Management of all data that is usually scattered around spreadsheets and documents, in a database that connects to engineering tools and that auto-generates documentation

The solution is available on the cloud as well as on-premise and is especially useful for remote teams who need to keep track of their engineering data.

Valispace closes €2.2M round

“Valispace has proven to help engineers across industries to develop better hardware. From drones to satellites, from small electronic boxes to entire nuclear fusion reactors.” said Marco Witzmann, CEO of Valispace, “when modern companies like our customers have the choice, they chose an agile engineering approach with Valispace.”

“Browser-based collaboration has become a must for any modern hardware company, as the importance of communication across teams and offices increases” Tobias Schirmer from JOIN Capital noted. “JOIN is enthusiastic to lead the round and utilize our unique position to help scale Valispace into the industries that need it most.”

Jerry Yang from HCVC (Hardware Club) added “given our experiences in full-stack startups, we are excited about Valispace’s growth potential across all industries, from medical devices, through robotics, to new mobility solutions. Anyone who develops complex technologies combining electronics, mechanical systems, software, cloud and AI to provide valuable services will benefit dramatically from Valispace’s software platform.”
