The aim of this non-profit campaign, which was launched in 2018, is to raise awareness of the need to produce as little waste as possible and not to carelessly discard waste into the environment. Together with a total of 200 volunteers, Rhenus employees took part in the clean-up campaign in the Unterbilk district around the Medienhafen, Rhine Tower and the Rheinknie Bridge. In Unterbilk, the helpers collected almost 150 kilograms of waste, a third of which was plastic. Rhenus’ Air & Ocean unit also supports the RhineCleanUp organization as a sponsor.
“Our company name alone shows our close connection to the longest river in Germany. After Rhenus had taken part in two clean-up campaigns in Asia last year, we wanted to get involved in a sustainability project in Europe too. Our employees were enthusiastic about the campaign and immediately all for making their own contribution to environmental protection,” reports Dr. Joana Bätz, Head of Global HR at Rhenus Air & Ocean.
