Bizerba, one of the leading providers of weighing, slicing and labeling technology solutions, today announced its new partnership with Amazon. In an international tender process, the U.S. Group chose products and solutions from the Balingen-based family business in two categories in its plans to equip its fresh food stores with slicing and weighing technology.

“After a tough, worldwide tender process, Amazon has awarded Bizerba the contract to equip its fresh markets with weighing and slicing technology. This allowed us to prevail with our products and solutions in not one, but two independently tendered categories with high-tech Made in Germany", explained Tudor Andronic, Vice President of Global Retail at Bizerba SE & Co. KG in Balingen. Amazon was impressed with the top quality, absolute consumer-oriented technology and high data security of Bizerba’s systems.

Currently, Amazon is pushing to expand e-commerce in the food sector with fresh food and is driving force behind efforts to enter into the retail food sector. In 2017, for example, the U.S. online retailer acquired Whole Foods Market, the world’s largest organic supermarket chain with around 450 stores in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., for $13.7 billion. At this time, Amazon is in the process of adding fully-fledged supermarkets under the name Amazon Go Grocery to its group of small-scale checkout-free Amazon Go stores. The large-scale fresh markets are designed to provide customers with every conceivable comfort and a perfect customer experience. In the opinion of industry insiders, the next step is likely to be expanding Amazon Fresh from a delivery service to a retail supermarket chain.

Amazon only uses newly developed, state-of-the-art technology in its retail stores. The claim that applies without restriction at the world’s most valuable brand: Only the very best is good enough to set new standards when interacting with customers and when it comes to offering the perfect customer experience. To achieve this, Amazon has developed its own technologies and has also been testing and purchasing leading technologies around the globe. “Receiving the award from Amazon in two categories is a clear signal of how much our commitment to high-quality products and innovative solutions that make for an even better customer experience is appreciated”, says Andreas Wilhelm Kraut, Chairman, CEO and shareholder of Bizerba SE & Co. KG, Balingen. The cooperation with Amazon in the field of weighing and slicing technology underlines Bizerba’s position as a global leader of innovative solutions. “This is something that we, as a fifth generation, family-owned and managed business, are really very proud of” says Andronic, expressing congratulations to the development teams in Balingen in particular.
