Since 2019, KEHREN GmbH belongs to the Precision Surfacing Solutions (PSS) Group. One of the many advantages of joining the PSS group is the access to the own engineering office in Magdeburg. In a great cooperation between the engineering team in Magdeburg and the one of KEHREN, the newest addition to the product portfolio of KEHREN, the new 5-axis vertical grinding center, has been developed and built.

With the development of the NEO 5, KEHREN shows once again their solution-orientated spirit. After many conversations with machine operators, purchasers, and the management of customers the need for a newly developed machine was understood and realized.

The NEO 5 accepts the most challenging processing tasks of workpieces up to 600 mm in diameter. Besides surface grinding (ID and OD), cone and sphere grinding, the NEO 5 is suitable for (pre) turning and milling, serration, and curvic coupling. Furthermore, hard finishing operations such as hard milling and hard turning can be performed with this machine. With this bandwidth of applications, the NEO 5 is a reliable partner for nearly every important operation which needs highest precision. Turbine parts, aerospace components, Stators, high precision coupling parts (curvic coupling), bearings, and gear parts are just a few applications to be processed on this machine.

To ensure a good investment for all customers, the NEO 5 is designed for longevity with long-term precision guaranteed by using premium components and state of the art technic like hydrostatic c-axis and axis equipped with direct drives (c, x, y, and z-axis). The machine base is uncompromising designed to be thermal stable and reach lowest tolerance deviations to ensure highest product quality for a long time. These premium features guarantee a high-level geometric tolerance of up to IT0 and a minimal run-out errors of less than 1 µm.

With implemented features like a balancing system for grinding wheels, automatic workpiece and tool measuring system, automatic dressing unit and the possibility of tool and workpiece handling you are near by a full automatization.

Different views for special grinding functions are included in the HMI controlled through a multi-touch display in the new designed control panel with an electronic key system for the different access levels.

Maintenance and service

Industry 4.0 plays an important role in today’s manufacturing routine. With the NEO 5, KEHREN defined new standards when it comes to advanced diagnosis through different interfaces, warning- and alarm messages, or a graphic overlay of fluid and wiring diagrams. Thus, the fluid plans can be displayed with actual values from the corresponding processes Predictive maintenance through a separate control is also part of the standard NEO 5 machine. The implementation of I/O Link system is currently in preparation.

In addition, operating and programming manuals, electrical circuit diagrams, and other documents can be conveniently accessed in the HMI. All maintenance intervals are listed in the electronic maintenance book. As soon as it is time for maintenance, the machine indicates this accordingly. However, should support be required, a user-friendly and data protection-compliant remote maintenance solution is available for you.

The NEO 5 is suitable for following workpiece dimensions:

Ø 600 mm
height: 500 mm
weight: 1.000 kg

With he extremely small footprint of 3,6 m x 3 m x 3,75 m (w/d/h), the NEO 5 fits into nearly every corner of a manufacturing hall. It is designed as a one-hook machine, including electrical cabinet and all necessary aggregates for easy installation into the manufacturing hall.
