HellermannTyton – the cable management part specialist – has introduced the Soft Grip fixing tie, for a firm hold on the smooth and delicate bundles common in vehicle fluid management.

The unique Soft Grip tie is made from heat-stabilised PA66HS with a soft TPE inner layer. The patent pending 2-component tie is combinable with 3 different mounts. The head of the outside-serrated tie locks seamlessly into each mount, thereby creating a robust 2-piece fixing part.

“We designed Soft Grip as a versatile fastening solution for smooth pipes, hoses and cables in vehicles”, says Artur Hofer, Product Manager at HellermannTyton. “Not only can one Soft Grip fixing tie effectively replace several p-clip diameters, it also reduces the need for bespoke fasteners and complex additional production steps”, adds Hofer.

“Ties deliver greater application flexibility than clips, but they will damage pipes and hoses if they are overtightened,” explains Andreas Voss, Account Manager for Fluid Management at HellermannTyton. “We went back to the drawing board and factored in all the requirements for more efficient and cost-effective fluid management in vehicle architecture. The result is Soft Grip, and I am very excited to be able to demonstrate this inventive solution to our customers.”

The rubber-like inner layer of the 2-component Soft Grip tie effectively inhibits displacement on smooth pipes, hoses and cable jackets and also dampens vibration noise. The ties and mounts are manufactured from materials suited to the temperature ranges and environments that heavy duty and transport vehicles operate in. The tail of the tie features a pre-locking tab for temporary bundling before final closure. Reliable, repeatable bundling and flush cutting can be achieved with the EVO9SG application tool.

The benefits of Soft Grip for fluid management at a glance:

  • A firm yet soft grip that does not damage hoses
  • No lateral or rotational movement on smooth bundles
  • Effective suppression of vibration noise
  • Many application diameters covered by a single part
  • Reduced custom development overheads.

3 different Soft Grip mount options are available for screw fixing (M6), pushing into round holes or onto weld studs for parallel routing. The mounts can be easily adapted to meet specific requirements.
