Valmet Automotive Group is confirmed by the international classification society DNV to be CO2 neutral in its operations since January 1, 2022. Carbon neutrality is a strategic goal of Valmet Automotive, and the company has significantly reduced emissions from its operations in recent years. Valmet Automotive is a leading player in the automotive industry in climate work.

Valmet Automotive has announced its commitment to carbon neutrality in accordance with the PAS 2060 standard as of January 1, 2022 in its own operations. DNV has now certified both Valmet Automotive’s target and the measures related to its implementation. Valmet Automotive’s commitment is part of a certification process in which the CO2 emissions of its operations are reviewed annually by a third party and fully compensated.

Valmet Automotive has been actively implementing measures to reduce its CO2 emissions for years. The company uses electricity only from renewable sources at its sites, and its CO2 emissions, calculated according to its GHG (Greenhouse Gas Protocol), were reduced by about 80 percent between 2019 and 2021. Valmet Automotive will continue to work systematically to reduce emissions.

Emission compensation is implemented annually based on the calculated emissions of the monitoring year at the beginning of the following calendar year. Valmet Automotive offsets its emissions with internationally certified projects that promote the production of renewable electricity and energy. The compensation projects will be focusing on developing countries, where they provide the greatest added value.

  • Valmet Automotive is an advanced, strongly committed, and vigilant player in climate work. Our announced commitment, now confirmed by a third party, means that Valmet Automotive is carbon neutral in its operations and one of the pioneers in our industry, says Olaf Bongwald, CEO, Valmet Automotive.

Valmet Automotive’s commitment to carbon neutrality in accordance with the PAS 2060 standard and the verification by DNV are available online on Valmet Automotive’s website. In accordance with the requirements of the standard, Valmet Automotive will publish an annual report on its emissions, the activities affecting them and the compensations.
