Dr. Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, will be the patron of LightCon on June 1 and 2, which will take place immediately after the Lightweighting Summit on May 31. This means that, in addition to the Lightweighting Summit of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, another high-profile lightweighting event is on the agenda.

The Lightweighting Summit is held as part of HANNOVER MESSE, the new congress trade fair for lightweight design as an independent event parallel to the world’s most important industrial trade fair. LightCon presents hybrid and sustainable lightweighting solutions across technologies and materials. With this year’s conference motto “Lightweight Design on the Path to Circular Economy”, LightCon focuses on the global challenges of resource efficiency, sustainability and climate protection, and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

LightCon addresses all user industries of lightweight design and combines the aspects of material, process, function and design. At the same time, it demonstrates the great diversity of lightweight design with its program. “In this way, LightCon 2022 makes an important contribution to the further development of a strong future technology as well as to Germany as a location for innovation,” emphasizes Habeck. “The constant development of innovative lightweight design solutions ensures the competitiveness of Germany as an industrial location and creates new jobs.”

“LightCon focuses on a key technology with high innovative power that is not only highly efficient in economic terms, but also saves resources, reduces emissions and protects the climate. That’s why we are particularly pleased that Dr. Robert Habeck, in his capacity as Federal Minister of Economics and Climate Protection, has taken on the patronage of LightCon,” says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG.

Co-founder and partner of LightCon is Composites United, one of the world’s largest networks for fiber-based multi-material lightweight design. Dr. Gunnar Merz, Chief Executive Officer of Composites United: “The assumption of LightCon patronage by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection makes me very happy and underlines the high potential of lightweight design and its chance to make a significant contribution to a positive CO2 balance. The cross-material approach of LightCon is particularly exciting in this respect, as it holds out the prospect of technically best possible solutions for its visitors with optimized economic efficiency.”
