The MOBILITY DOCK has now won four important awards, after the innovative charger from LAPP MOBILITY GmbH, a corporate start-up from LAPP, picked up the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD and the eMove360°AWARD in the autumn of 2021. "We are very proud that we clearly hit a nerve with the MOBILITY DOCK. There was a gap in the range of charging solutions that our innovation has enabled us to fill," says Frank Hubbert, Managing Director of LAPP Mobility GmbH.
A solution that makes our life better
The highest “Gold” category of the German Innovation Award was presented yesterday at a ceremony organised by the German Design Council in the Futurium in Berlin. The award honours achievements in innovation that break new ground and provide genuine added value. The focus is on the usage experience, with solutions that make our lives better and contribute to a better future. There were a total of 640 submissions for the award. The highest “Gold” award was awarded to 27 products/projects, including LAPP’s MOBILITY DOCK.
Sustainability Award in the mobility concept category
The Sustainability Award in Automation is also coveted in the industry. It honours outstanding examples of sustainable solutions in the fields of environmental and climate protection as well as society and governance in the automotive and mobility industries. It is awarded by the ATZ/MTZ Group and mobility experts from the business consultancy Arthur D. Little (ADL) as part of the ATZlive conference “Tomorrow’s drives and energy systems 2022” in the three categories of technology, mobility concepts and start-up. With MOBILITY DOCK, LAPP MOBILITY GmbH was one of the winners in the category for MOBILITY concepts in the infrastructure sector.
Space-saving mobile charging station
The juries’ enthusiasm for the Mobility Dock is no accident. “Our MOBILITY DOCK completely fulfils the function of a mobile charging station but requires much less space in the boot”, says Frank Hubbert, describing the new product launched on the market in April 2022. The MOBILITY DOCK is a space-saving charger that allows an electric vehicle to be charged from a standard household socket in conjunction with any type 2 charging cable (charging mode 3). This means that electric car drivers need fewer different types of charging cable.
The MOBILITY DOCK communicates with the vehicle via a control unit integrated into the charger, which sets the charging current up to a maximum of 10A and also monitors the charging process. This enables a maximum charging power of up to 2.3 kW to be achieved, with automatic adjustment. The unit monitors the device temperature and the temperature of the plug socket. If an increased temperature is detected on the power connector, the charger automatically regulates the charging power to prevent overheating. Another protective function for the user is earth conductor monitoring as well as detection of direct current and alternating current faults in the charger. These AC and DC faults are detected and protected up to 6mA DC and 30mA AC. The MOBILITY DOCK is CE compliant and developed and tested in compliance with the device standard in accordance with IEC62752.
Easy and safe handling
To start charging, the type 2 charging cable (also known as Mode 3 charging cable) is plugged into the type 2 socket on the MOBILITY DOCK. The MOBILITY DOCK with charging cable inserted is then connected to the domestic plug socket and charging begins. An LED indicates the device status. All components are completely stable and securely fixed. An integrated bracket on the side of the device allows it to be attached to the wall of a building and can be unlocked by pressing a button. This allows precise adjustment of the bracket on the building wall. The connected type 2 charging cable is locked by a mechanism on the housing and can be unlocked using the release lever on the rear. This means that the type 2 charging cable can be removed from the charger with minimal effort.
Thanks to the type 2 socket integrated into the housing, the MOBILITY DOCK is compatible with the European charging cable standard and can therefore be used on all electric and hybrid cars in Europe. The housing of the MOBILITY DOCK is protected against splashed water (IP44) and is designed to withstand falls from any position from a height of 1m. The weight of approx. 750g and dimensions of 255x135x105 mm mean that the installation space and weight of the MOBILITY DOCK are optimised. The device can be stored in the boot, loading floor or in the side pockets of the vehicle to save space. The cap for the type 2 socket also protects the charger against contamination.
The MOBILITY DOCK can be ordered from the LAPP MOBILITY online shop (www.lappmobility.lappgroup.com/…). More information can be found at www.lappmobility.com and https://www.youtube.com/…
