WAN-IFRA announces the 24 news publishers participating in the fourth edition of the Table Stakes Europe programme. They join a community of over 55 alumni publishers who have taken part in the previous editions of the performance-driven change initiative in Europe.

Table Stakes Europe, a programme by WAN-IFRA and Google, will be led once again by Table Stakes architect Doug Smith, alongside a team of expert coaches including Valérie Arnould, Alexandra Borchardt, Pepe Cerezo, Martin Fröhlich, Lyndsey Jones and Stéphane Mayoux. Topic experts and fellow publishers from around the globe will also join throughout the programme to help guide the teams through their challenges.

Each publisher participating in this edition of Table Stakes Europe has appointed multidisciplinary teams that will embark on a 12-month journey, undertaking a specific and crucial change management initiative that is designed to address a significant, self-identified challenge facing their business, with regard to their digital transformation journey. These initiatives range from diversification of revenue streams, embracing new digital platforms and expanding and better engaging the audiences they serve.

We are excited to welcome such a diverse and motivated group of publishers to this new year of Table Stakes Europe. Each publisher comes into the programme with a unique situation and challenge, but their shared commitment to driving change and creating a successful, sustainable future for their organisations serves as the inspiration for the support and best practices they will exchange with each other. We look forward to working with each of them and to seeing the progress and achievements they will make over the next year.” said Martin Fröhlich, Director Digital Revenue Network, WAN-IFRA.

ABOUT TABLES STAKES EUROPE Table Stakes Europe is a WAN-IFRA programme in partnership with the Google News Initiative. A transformation and coaching programme for regional and local news publishers, Table Stakes Europe uses a challenge-centric, performance-and-accountability change methodology to identify and then close shortfalls against seven core performance challenges, the “Table Stakes”. The so-called ‘table stakes’ is an expression for the money needed to have a seat at the table in a poker game. The Programme builds upon the successful track record of an initiative designed and led by Doug Smith since 2015. In its fourth year in Europe, the programme will provide an opportunity for twenty-four news enterprises to identify and make significant progress in addressing their biggest current challenges. www.tablestakes-europe.org
