Hyundai Motor Deutschland GmbH and PARAVAN GmbH are launching a partnership for handicapped-accessible vehicle conversions for wheelchair users. The cooperation will be presented on the occasion of Rehacare in Düsseldorf. The Hyundai STARIA serves as the basic vehicle, which offers an optimal platform for conversion as a driver and passenger solution with generous headroom for wheelchair users. At Rehacare in Düsseldorf, the two brands will jointly present the innovative vehicle concept in Hall 6 at booth 6C55 as well as in the outdoor area.

The Hyundai STARIA offers optimum basic requirements for vehicle adaptation for the disabled for almost any physical limitation. Many features already fitted as standard, such as automatically opening electric sliding doors and tailgate, the navigation-based assistant – which automatically adjusts speed to the road topography – and Passenger View provide a significant increase in safety and comfort. The vehicle’s height of 1.99 meters ensures comfortable exit and entry for both wheelchair users and passengers. A contemporary and high-quality interior and ample space in a vehicle length of 5,253 millimeters provide the ideal conditions for a handicap vehicle conversion as a driver, passenger or ride-sharing solution.

"Corporate customers can choose from a comprehensive portfolio of offers at Hyundai, from the small Hyundai i10 to the popular SUV TUCSON to the large-capacity van STARIA, we cover all relevant segments," says Tobias Krumnikl, Head of Department Commercial Customers and Used Car Strategy. "The cooperation with a provider of vehicle conversions for the disabled is an important step for us to offer our models to an even broader customer base."

"We are looking forward to the cooperation with Hyundai, which offers great advantages to customers, especially in terms of availability and warranty," says Roland Arnold, founder and managing director of PARAVAN GmbH. "The new PARAVAN Hyundai STARIA combines the functionality of a wheelchair accessible vehicle with a contemporary vehicle design. With these features, the vehicle meets all the requirements of a modern wheelchair-accessible vehicle and does so in an interesting price segment."

During a plant tour at the Aichelau mobility park, the representatives of Hyundai Motor Germany were able to get an idea of how the Swabian mobility manufactory works and gave the go-ahead for the necessary modifications to the vehicle. The vehicle warranty of five years with no term limit is also retained, except for the assemblies modified by PARAVAN, which are then subject to the PARAVAN warranty conditions.

To ensure the necessary headroom of 1.40 m, the vehicle floor was lowered from the A to the C-pillar. The result is a spacious and barrier-free vehicle interior with a height of 1.40 meters, in which there is also room for a row of seats for three people in addition to the wheelchair. The modern STARIA is flexibly adaptable and can also be equipped with a PARAVAN cassette lift/transfer console.

Optionally and depending on the symptoms, further individual adaptations are possible: Whether the Space Drive driving and steering system with the corresponding input devices is to be used, a light steering system, a gas ring or various mechanical hand devices for operating the gas and brake. Depending on requirements, the vehicle can be individually equipped with the PARAVAN Touch and with the PARAVAN voice control system, which are used to operate not only the primary functions but also the secondary functions such as turn signals, horn, lights or even the electric sun visor. It is also possible to fit the universal MultiMote multifunction rotary knob on the steering wheel.

A Hyundai STARIA converted for disabled access will be presented at the PARAVAN stand at REHACARE in Düsseldorf. In hall 6 at booth 6C55 the visitors have the possibility to inform themselves about the possibilities of individual adaptations and can already take a seat in the Space Drive Cockpit, no matter whether with wheelchair or on the original driver’s seat. On the outdoor area below Hall 6, Hyundai Motor Deutschland and PARAVAN GmbH will jointly present the basic vehicle in the "Signature" equipment variant.

About Hyundai Motor Germany:
Hyundai Motor Deutschland GmbH, based in Offenbach am Main, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Company. The South Korean brand has established itself on the German market with a constant annual number of over 100,000 new registrations. Convincing features for customers, in addition to the attractive design and a very good price-value ratio, are the 5-year warranty package with no mileage limit and 8-year warranty for battery-electric vehicles. In 2022, the market share was 4 percent, corresponding to 105,074 registrations. Hyundai thus remains the strongest Asian brand in Germany. Hyundai is consolidating its position as a provider of alternative drive systems. In addition to the popular electrified SUVs, the Hyundai IONIQ sub-brand with the multi-award-winning IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 is an important cornerstone for selling only zero-emission vehicles in Europe from 2035. Two-thirds of the vehicles sold in Europe are designed and tested at the European research and development center in Rüsselsheim. Hyundai Motor produces for the European market at two locations: The i30, TUCSON and KONA electric model series are manufactured in Nošovice in the Czech Republic, while the i10, i20 model series and BAYON come off the production line in Hyundai Assan Otomotiv in Turkey. Hyundai sees itself as a mobility provider. Sustainability plays an important role in all its activities: Hyundai is electrifying the vehicle fleet of its Bundesliga partner Eintracht Frankfurt, for example. In addition, a tree is planted for every IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 sold in Germany with Plant-My-Tree as part of a reforestation project near Lüdenscheid; by the end of 2022, 15,300 will already have been planted. In cooperation with the marine conservation organization Healthy Seas, campaigns are taking place around the world to rid beaches and oceans of trash. For this, Hyundai received the German Award for Sustainability Projects in 2022. Information and photos also online at www.hyundai.news/de

Über die PARAVAN GmbH

Paravan GmbH is the world market leader for highly customized vehicle solutions for the disabled. Around 180 employees at the Pfronstetten Aichelau site and the Heidelberg branch develop and produce individually adapted automobile conversions, power wheelchairs, and even specially specialized driver training. PARAVAN pursues a holistic approach with its "one-stop concept". The technological highlight is Space Drive, an intelligent digital control system based on the drive-by-wire principle. Thanks to the active redundancy of the servo motors, it is completely fail-safe and the first to be approved for road use. With the help of this innovation, severely disabled people, some without arms or legs, can drive independently and safely. It is not possible for these drivers to simply intervene in the steering wheel. Worldwide, Space Drive has proven itself on over one billion road kilometers in the last 20 years and is used by numerous industrial customers for test vehicles in the field of autonomous driving. The system is available as a retrofit kit with an open interface for all known vehicle types. www.paravan.com
