Ghanaian and US nuclear companies sign trade agreement for a modular reactor project in Ghana.

The US-African Nuclear Energy Summit in Nairobi represents a milestone in civil nuclear cooperation between the US and Ghanaian nuclear industries. The trade agreement signed between Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) and a US developer for a small modular reactor project demonstrates the commitment of the two countries. The aim is to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions. Ghana wants to improve its energy structure, and this is more or less the starting signal.

Ghana is aiming to play a pioneering role in the introduction of small modular reactors (SMRs). The USA is supporting Ghana in establishing itself as a regional SMR center. There will be technical training and consultancy services as well as an SMR control room simulator. This will enable Ghana to develop a skilled workforce in the nuclear sector, while emphasizing the highest international nuclear standards. The US is thus fulfilling its commitment to support the use of clean, innovative nuclear energy and Ghana is getting its first nuclear power plant.

And it all makes sense, as greenhouse gas emissions in Ghana rose by around 20 percent between 1991 and 2011. This is due to an increase in the energy intensity of Ghana’s economy. According to estimates, without nuclear power there would be a cumulative increase in CO2 emissions of 35 percent within ten years. The main sources of CO2 emissions are transportation and fossil fuels. As more and more countries are embracing nuclear power, companies with uranium in the ground should also have promising prospects for the future. These include Premier American Uranium and Uranium Energy, for example.

Premier American Uraniumhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/premier-american-uranium-inc/ – has extensive properties in uranium-producing regions in the USA, in Colorado and Wyoming.

Uranium Energyhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ – also has high-grade uranium projects in Canada and the USA. In Wyoming, uranium production has just been successfully resumed.
