Australian and Swiss machine manufacturers have worked together to use environmentally friendly machines in mining. Also on board is a loader that charges the batteries of the gigantic dump trucks. In the future, the dump trucks will be able to drive autonomously. Fortescue already has over 200 autonomous trucks on the road. Whether dump trucks, excavators or bulldozers, they are equipped with battery systems. In Mongolia, too, an electric dump truck with the option of quick battery replacement is soon to be used in a copper mine (Oyu Tolgoi). Changing batteries saves time compared to static charging. This is because changing the battery should only take seven minutes, while the battery will do its job for around eight hours. In China, innovative electrically powered tippers are already being used in mining. Green energy is also being used in mining to advance decarbonization goals.
A study by McKinsey concludes that the mining industry is responsible for four to seven percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Powerful batteries are needed to ensure that mining processes function emission-free, as the power consumption of large-scale equipment is immense. To date, lead-acid batteries, nickel-iron batteries and lithium-ion batteries have mainly been used. This is where super batteries come into play. Decarbonization is possible thanks to special raw materials such as lithium, cobalt or nickel.
Battery raw materials are the business of Green Bridge Metals – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/green-bridge-metals-corp/ -. The company’s projects are located in Manitoba and Ontario.
Century Lithium – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/century-lithium-corp/ – in Nevada is responsible for lithium. The pilot plant already supplies lithium carbonate with a purity of 99.5 percent.
