Over the years, Black Friday has established itself as a symbol of fast and short-term consumption. Through its Repair Week, ORTLIEB Sportartikel GmbH is aiming to send out a signal against this cycle of consumerism. As part of actions to mark the 40 years that have passed since its foundation, ORTLIEB is therefore offering a 40% discount on all repairs during the week from 21 to 26 November 2022. The manufacturer of waterproof bike panniers, backpacks and travel bags produces exclusively in Germany and has always focused on sustainable, durable and repairable products.

In the words of CEO Martin Esslinger: “Climate change should be the predominant topic of our times, there is no time left for us to keep overexploiting our planet. Sustainable management is essential, and this includes products being durable. Our bags are designed and constructed so that all individual parts are easy to repair. This enables us to achieve an even longer service life for our products.”

ORTLIEB has been offering the repair service since it was founded, and has continued extending this feature and training its partners to become professional repairers. This means that not only specialist dealers but also sales partners around the world are able to repair defects locally, which avoids unnecessary transport routes. Under the hashtag #ORTLIEBcares, the specialist for waterproof bike panniers and backpacks is also seeking to collect the best repair stories from the community.

Jubilee year with a variety of promotions and events

The entire anniversary year of 2022 has been and is centering on the employees and customers. Various events and promotions have taken place during the year, with the focus for the most part being on the ORTLIEB team. Activities have included organizing an ice cream van, holding a grand company party and shooting our own thank-you video.

This is what founder and managing director Hartmut Ortlieb has to say: “The ORTLIEB team is what defines us and has brought the company to where we are today. This is why we wanted to use the fortieth anniversary to say thank you to both our employees and our customers.”

And so goodie bags were distributed to cyclists in ten cities around the world as a way of saying “Thank you” to them. The idea here was to express our gratitude to the cyclists for their commuting by bike. The “Go by bike” campaign took place simultaneously in Copenhagen, Berlin, London, Seattle, Utrecht, Zurich, Salzburg, Vienna, Paris and Nuremberg.

Now, as the year draws to a close, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts are to take center stage again, with the Repair Week setting a positive signal for the importance of durable products.
