ClubFusion and a spooky fairy tale
On June 1, advance public ticket sales for 2023/24 begin at Oper Leipzig; the current season ends on July 9, 2023. Until then, the city’s stages also, and especially, belong to the theatre clubs: ClubFusion, the joint festival of the Schauspiel, Opera and TDJW (Theatre of the Young World) theatre clubs, enters into its third season this summer from June 23 to July 4, 2023! A festival line-up featuring 15 clubs in 39 events with nearly 250 performers awaits audiences on the stages at the three venues. Oper Leipzig joins in with some very promising titles: »LIEBE! MICH!«(“Love! Me!”) by the Musical Youth Theatre Club, »Die Zauberschlange und die gestohlenen Träume« (“The Magic Snake and Stolen Dreams”) a presentation by the Children’s Opera Club, and »Das Ende der Träume« (“The End of Dreams”) by the Senior Opera Club. Beyond the festival program, the opera’s children’s and youth choir is once again looking forward to cooperating with the Schaubühne Lindenfels to present the spooky fairy tale »Das Geheimnis der Schwarzen Spinne (“The Secret of the Black Spider”).

The Leipzig Opera follows the tradition of 330 years of musical theatre in Leipzig: in 1693, the first opera house on the Brühl was opened as the third civic music theatre in Europe after Venice and Hamburg. Since 1840, the world-renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra has played for all performances of the opera and the Leipzig ballet. In addition to today’s opera house on Augustusplatz, built in 1960, Leipzig Opera includes the Musikalische Komödie, a special venue for musical and operettas. With around 680employees, it is the city’s largest in-house cultural institution and comprises five mainstays: the opera, Musikalische Komödie, Leipzig Ballet, their 360° outreach and educational programme, and the craft studios which work for all of the city’s theatres.
