Hoffmann studied Engineering at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and later Karlsruhe Institute of Technology then, having gained his doctorate in Engineering, joined Robert Bosch GmbH in October 1996 as a trainee. He worked in various quality assurance, production and technical operations & plant management roles in Spain, Germany, Japan and the Czech Republic. In 2007, Hoffmann was appointed Director of ZF Lenksysteme GmbH in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany.
In 2012, Hoffmann moved to Bosch Rexroth AG and became Member of the Executive Board responsible for the Business Unit Renewable Energies. In 2015, he accepted additional responsibility as Member of the Executive Board for the Business Unit Mobile Applications and was also made Executive Vice President of the Business Unit Mobile Applications, responsible for engineering.

From April 1, 2019, the composition of WITTENSTEIN SE’s four-member Management Board will be as follows: Dr. Bertram Hoffmann (Chairman of the Board and CEO), Dr. Anna-Katharina Wittenstein, Dr. Dirk Haft and Erik Roßmeißl.
