The expansion of nuclear energy to meet the growing demand for electricity, which is being pursued by more than 40 countries, is gathering pace. One area in which the use of nuclear power is being tested is the container ship sector. A South Korean shipbuilding company has now presented a container ship with nuclear propulsion. It uses a small modular reactor (SMR) and can hold up to 15,000 standard containers. Economy and safety have been continuously improved. Exhaust gas systems and fuel tanks are not necessary. According to the International Energy Agency, a record amount of electricity will be generated by nuclear power this year. Industry, electromobility, data centers and the use of artificial intelligence are responsible for this. Worldwide, almost 420 nuclear power plants provide almost ten percent of the global electricity supply. There are new reactors in India, China, South Korea and Europe.
Kazakhstan, for example, is now rethinking its plans and wants to build a nuclear power plant and rely less on coal-fired power plants in the future. After nuclear energy was banned in Italy for decades, the country wants to return to nuclear power in 2027. Italy phased out nuclear power in 1980, but the Italian government is now working on a draft law for simplified approval procedures. Nuclear power is to complement renewable energies. It is about climate targets and a possible reduction in energy costs. In France, the new Flamanville 3 reactor was successfully connected to the grid at the end of 2024. As the most powerful reactor in France, it can supply up to two million households with electricity. Uranium companies such as Uranium Energy and IsoEnergy are working to obtain the necessary uranium.
Uranium Energy – https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/market-update-on-uranium-and-why-uranium-energy-is-in-an-excellent-position/ – owns environmentally friendly and cost-effective ISR uranium projects in the U.S., additional projects in Canada and three hub-and-spoke platforms in South Texas and Wyoming.
IsoEnergy – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/isoenergy-ltd/ – has high-grade uranium deposits in Saskatchewan (Athabasca Basin) as well as in Australia, Argentina and the USA. Some of the company’s mines can be put into operation at short notice.
